Sean Wilsey 7:36 AM (21 minutes ago) to me Dear NY (and a few TX) Friends, On Tuesday, November 18, at 8:00, I will be reading from my new book, More Curious, and talking about topics explored therein with the writers Charles Bock and Leslie Jamison. This will be at the National Arts Club on Manhattans Gramercy Park. The event is free. There will be a slide show. There will be wine in wineglasses, and an extremely attractive bar. There will be some scolding, as this is a private club. The topic of the evening: artists colonies/communities—utopian and hellish, with special emphasis on Marfa, Texas, a place where I supposedly live, and where Jamison is slated to spend a month as a guest of the Lannan foundation this winter. Bock, her husband (!), will surely visit while shes there. My books (and for some reason only my books, which is completely unfair, but somehow club policy) will be sold/signed. Fortunately the Bock residence is only five minutes away, so these guys arent exactly schlepping across town. Still, I recommend buying Jamisons (nothing less than essential) essay collection The Empathy Exams, as well as her novel, The Gin Closet, immediately. And even if you already own Bocks Beautiful Children (one of my favorite books of all time), get a second copy and then sell it after he wins the Triple Crown (National Book Award, Pulitzer, National Book Critics Circle Award) for his new book. Im sure they can sign them outside on the sidewalk. Bock has beautiful handwriting and tattoos. And maybe, if we all behave, we can get a key and take a stroll in Gramercy Park itself. Location: 15 Gramercy Park S. 212-475-3424. I hope to see every single one of you there. And if any of you Marfans want to offer up some slides I would be grateful! Sean
