Search continues for missing mushroom hunter By Dee Riggs World staff writer Thursday, June 13, 2013 LAKE WENATCHEE — Searches Tuesday night and all-day Wednesday failed to turn up any sign of a missing mushroom hunter from Seattle. Hildegard Hendrickson, 79, was on a day trip to the Chikamin Gulch area near the Basalt Peak trail Saturday. The Basalt Peak trail is north of Lake Wenatchee off the Chiwawa River Road. Family members say she has been an avid mushroom hunter for 37 years. Hendrickson was among a group of mushroom hunters featured in The Seattle Times in 2004. She was an economics and business professor at Seattle University, retiring in 1996. John Wisemore, Chelan County undersheriff, said no one knew she was overdue from her trip until her car was tagged as suspicious on Tuesday, and authorities contacted her relatives. Involved in the search so far have been deputies and volunteers from the Sheriff’s Office and the Forest Service, Wisemore said. He was expecting help from deputies and volunteers from Snohomish County and Kittitas County today. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating the search. — Dee Riggs, World staff
