So if bible didnt instruct christian to observe 40days period called lent,why then some ignorant observe it. According to catholic,lent is derived from d 40days Jesus spent in d wilderness bt it is admitted dat d observance of lent was unknown to d disciples and it did nt find its way into d church until several centuries afta d time of Christ. It should be noted that d 40days of fasting in d wilderness preceded d earthly ministry of Christ,which lasted for some three and half years and was nt connected in anyway to his ressurection or the passover. Note dat lent is a movable observance connected to and precedin d festival of Easter.Easter is celebrated on a day specified only by d Roman catholic church and nt bible,and is fixed base on d sun and d spring or vernal equinox. In d fourth century Saint Athanasius instructed d people of alexandria to observe a 4 days period of fasting prior to easter,indicating that this was d mode nw practiced throughout christendom. 40days lent was nt knwn in d west until the time of saint Ambrose(c339-397). Beloveth the lent observe is a religion exercise and has no root in the bible. Is just a hunger strike to them that observe it. Our Master Jesus teach us hw to fast,nt like pharisees. Moreover ,when ye fast,be not.as hypocrite,of a sad countenance,for they disfigure their faces,that they may appear unto men to fast,verily i say unto they hav their reward. But thou,when thou fastest ,anoint thine head and wash thy face. That thou appear not unto men to fast,but unto thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.(mathew6:16-18). But they ar hypocrite for the fasting knw unto men. They use to deny themselv during their religion exercise called lent and afta they went back to their vomit.
