Search for missing men and plane At approximately midday today officers working remote equipment on the Van Diemen located the missing plane at the bottom of the sea near Cape Raoul, Tasman Peninsula. Tasmania Police can confirm that imaging has detected two people within the cockpit of the plane. Liaison officers have contacted the families to relay the news of the discovery. It is intended that recovery operations will begin immediately. “Weather conditions, while sloppy, are not windy and that is good for recovery. As long as the weather stays favourable, we hope to make good progress,” said Inspector Lee Renshaw. “We remain working for the families and hope to bring them the closure they need following this tragic incident,” he said. Police have liaised with the Coroner and Air Transport Safety Bureau who will conduct simultaneous investigations regarding the cause of the crash and the deaths of the two men.
