Seasiders snatch Intermediate success Armagh Citys dream of an unprecedented treble was ended by a pair of first half goals at Mill Meadow this evening, but Marty Rices men can hold their heads high after a tremendous season. Bangor grabbed an early lead through striker Andy Morrow when he diverted Mark Coolings free-kick past Sean Morgan in the City goal. The Eagles struggled to find their feet in the early going and were restricted to a direct attacking game by the Bangor midfield. City did have chances from set pieces but too often failed to test Gibbons in the Bangor goal. A few flashes of quality emerged mid-way through the half, with Philip Donnelly at the centre of the action, as Stephen Murray pulled a shot wide from 20 yards for Citys first meaningful effort on goal. Just as it seemed like City had found their rhythm, Bangor struck again. Dangerous winger Jordan Forsythe picked up the ball in the box and beat Morgan at the far post to give City a mountain to climb. Armagh came out strongly in the second half, but were restricted to long range efforts for the most part. Ultan Lennon had a glorious chance to get City back in the game but couldnt convert from a Shea McGerrigan corner, while Matty Hynds and Murray both had efforts well stopped by Gibbons. Bangor held on to their two goal advantage and were worthy winners on the day, but Marty Rice and his team can be very proud of an incredible season, and will use todays game as a barometer for the challenges which lie ahead next season. Bangor manager Garth Scates was left to lift the Intermediate Cup by his team, an emotional moment and fitting reward for his dedication and perseverance after such a difficult year.
