Season Report - East Keilor Division 2 Season 2013: 12 wins, 6 loses, 136.72% First season under former North Footscray coach David Battistella and the club had a lot to live up to following the inaugural Division 2 premiership they claimed in 2012. Although the Cougars got a win in round 1 against Roxburgh Park by 17 points, they then lost their next three games to Keilor Park, Hillside and Moonee Valley which resulted in many people questioning whether they were a spent force following a new coaching staff and a host of new players. As it turned out they were just beaten by two of the best sides in the competition and they then rallied to string together four straight wins before going down to the Devils again in round 9. After 18 rounds they finished in 3rd spot on percentage behind Moonee Valley and smashed Keilor Park by 43 points in their elimination final to set up a preliminary final berth with Moonee Valley. After leading by five goals at three quarter the Cougars managed to stumble at the final hurdle and surrendered their lead to go down by three points to the Valley in a disappointing finish to the season. First year player Hayden Phillips took out the clubs best and fairest award on Saturday night. Best Win: Their elimination final 43 point victory over Keilor Park was as convincing as any this season whilst their round 16 victory over Keilor Park by one point was possibly the sweetest of the lot, their round 18, seven point victory over Moonee Valley gave them plenty of momentum going into their finals campaign also. Moving Forward: Two seasons in Division 2 has yielded a premiership and a preliminary final and they are obviously a powerhouse of third tier of EDFL football. With the likelihood of Westmeadows not making the drop down to Division 2 due to inclusion of Burnside Heights into the senior ranks, next season may be the ideal time to make a massive tilt at premiership glory and get back up into Division 1 for the Cougars.
