Season Report - Glenroy Friday, September 27, 2013 Division 1 Season 2013: 14 wins, 3 loses, 1 draw 160.57% Big things were expected of the Roys this season, a healthy list with the additions of home grown Aaron Kite back from Myrtleford, Nathan Sciberras, Scott Gilliland and Keegan Shrimpton were thought to have filled some key areas. Being the most well supported club in Division 1 the talk was hot and the folk down at Sewell Reserve were happy to spruik their chances of premiership glory. Round 1 started in shaky fashion with a ten goal plus turn around needed against West Coburg to get the first win on the board. They won their first four games before going down to the Northern Saints in round 5 by 32 points. A round 7 draw to Tullamarine and a surprise loss to West Coburg the following round had many people asking whether they actually were the real deal. A soft draw in the back half of the season and some strong wins against the top four sides allowed the Roys to finish in second position. A loss to the Northern Saints in the first final, followed up by a strong win over Tullamarine in the preliminary final set up a Grand Final berth with Northern Saints again. The Roys were not disgraced in their performance and up until the last few minutes were right in the game and nearly pulled off a remarkable Grand Final victory in front of a huge and boisterous crowd at Windy Hill. Aaron Kite won the Division 1 goal kicking award and was joined in the Team of the Year by club captain Travis Dulic who was named vice captain, Joe Sayers, Adam Dennis (club best and fairest winner) and Danny Campbell. Best Win: Their ANZAC Day clash against Westmeadows was a comfortable win however for the day that the Glenroy Football Club put on the result was fitting of how much good club the Glenroy committee have done over previous seasons. Moving Forward: The Roys will certainly enter next season as warm premiership favourites. Their performance on Grand Final day stood for a lot and with Lance Whitnall in charge they should hold onto a large crop of their list. Captain Travis Dulic proved through the finals series that he is a superstar captain and will once again be crucial to their chances next season.
