Season Report - Hadfield Division 1 Season 2013: 6 wins, 12 loses, 80.35% It was hoped that Hadfield’s young list could take the next step in season 2013 and produce some strong performances that would see them push for finals football. Their first up eight point win over Westmeadows renewed hope in that belief but a lot rested on the availability of VFL listed players Jake Polizzi, Shaun Wyatt and Dean Soncin, all of whom only played a handful of games between them. Their six wins all came against Westmeadows, Craigieburn and West Coburg, the four sides who were well off the pace in comparison to the other four Division 1 teams, for the Hawks it was a long stretch from the memorable victory against Airport West last season. The clubs Under 18’s won the premiership and have now featured in the last five Grand Finals, also taking home the gong in 2010. A number of their Under 18’s players including Hisham Kerbatieh, Steve Vocale and Michael Tang all played regular senior football this season and the club will need them and the other good quality juniors coming through to bind together with the already established senior players to create success going forward. Daniel Ferraro was the standout again, winning the clubs best and fairest for the second season running and also featuring in the Team of the Year. Best Win: Whilst the Round 1 triumph against modern day rivals Westmeadows was a sweet one but nothing can go past their last round come from behind win over Craigieburn. Trailing by 41 points during the third quarter the Hawks rallied to storm home to win by nine points and send off club legend Paul Micallef in style. Moving Forward: The first point of call is appointing a coach with the club seeking applicants for the role. Rob Don has held the position for seven seasons now but has only managed one finals appearance, most outside observers would say it’s time for change, however Don is adamant he is the right man for the job and has put his hand up to do the role again.
