Seasonal Driving Tips: 80s Style! by Jason Jantzi, SDAO Risk Management Consultant - Fire As I consider how to present this information in a new way, I glanced at the temperature and saw it was in the 80s. Perfect. The 80s. We can all appreciate 80s music. I will attempt to make this fun so dont worry, be happy. OK that was bad. Sunrise is beginning to occur later and the glare can be so bright I gotta wear shades. Keep a pair of sunglasses handy in the car to help avoid that glare. On the other side of the day, you may be dancing in the dark because the days are getting shorter as well. Its never overkill to do routine inspections of your vehicles to make sure everything functions correctly. Make certain that your wiper blades, headlights, brakes and tires are working properly as leaves, fog and rain can obscure your vision and make the roadway slick. When you are driving your little red corvette, slow down and keep your eyes on the road. Keep in mind that dimmed headlights are better to see the boulevard directly in front of you during bad weather. Kids in America are heading back to school and may be steppin out into traffic. As the bus stops to pick them up, you may hear the bus driver tell them dont stand so close to me because I cant see you in my blind spots. Take note of the school crossings and bus stops on your drive to work. Law enforcement will be increasing patrols in these areas so keep in mind that somebodys watching me as you drive. Finally, as the temperatures decrease, remember to watch out for the cool change. Ice can occur in the early morning and you may not get a second chance. Make certain that you take the time to scrape your windows to ensure adequate visibility. Shady spots and bridges may also hold on to frost and ice longer than the rest of the roadway. Slow down and be a smooth operator of your vehicle. This will help you keep traction in slick conditions.
