Season’s Greetings, I am Edward M. Turay, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland. On behalf of His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma, the Government of Sierra Leone, and Sierra Leoneans at home, I heartily extend a special Christmas holiday greeting to all Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone, and your respective families, residing here in the United Kingdom. As we celebrate this joyous time of year, now, more than ever, we must rededicate ourselves to the idea that we share a Common destiny as Sierra Leoneans; we are indeed each other’s keeper. This reality is even more significant today as Sierra Leone is at the battlefront of one of the greatest life and death challenges ever faced by the global human community – that is the Ebola scourge. As President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma reminds us “it is an extraordinary challenge with extraordinary effects, necessitating extraordinary measures”. To that end Government has taken extra-ordinary measures, including • declaring a state of Emergency, shutting down the country for three days to get over 27,000 health educators onto every household in the country, • And reallocating millions of dollars from other vital services to this life and death struggle. As such, while our Government at home assiduously continues to address this problem, we must pay tribute to the immense contribution of the Diaspora community towards efforts to curb the Ebola scourge. I refer to those in health related fields that have volunteered to go and work in Sierra Leone, those who eloquently advocate on social and traditional media, and those who have collected and shipped medical supplies, food items and other desperately needed goods to Sierra Leone. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and making a meaningful impact. With those thoughts in mind, as the Holiday Season is upon us, may you enjoy all the happiness the Season can bring and may His eternal love bring you peace and happiness throughout the coming year. Bless you, and may you have a wonderful Christmas and joyous holiday season.
