Seattle Seahawks ~ 2014 Russell Wilson... On the road: 105.3 rating 12 TDs 1 INT vs NFC West: 105.0 rating 5 TDs 1 INT #SEAvsAZ Thursday in Hawkville: The numbers behind Russell Wilson’s impressive numbers seahawks Russell Wilson hasn’t become the quarterback during the Super Bowl era with the most victories in his first three seasons by accident. There are other numbers that add up to his run of success. FOCUS ON: RUSSELL WILSON’S OTHER NUMBERS While just trying to go 1-0 every week, the Seahawks’ third-year quarterback has become a winning, passing, running stat magnet. Since arriving in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and beating out incumbent Tarvaris Jackson and free-agent addition Matt Flynn for the starting job, Wilson has won more games (34) and home games (21) in his first three seasons than any QB during the Super Bowl era. There also are those nine games with at least 71 rushing yards, which just happen to be the top nine rushing games by a QB in franchise history – including four triple-digit efforts. And then there are those 70 touchdown passes, which rank sixth in NFL history for a QB in his first 46 games. And there’s also that .739 winning percentage (34-12), which ranks behind only the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady (.776) among active QBs. And, don’t forget about Wilson’s 7-0 record against the Mount Rushmore of current NFL quarterbacks – Peyton Manning (2-0), Drew Brees (2-0), Aaron Rodgers (2-0) and Brady (1-0). Everybody knows all of that. But did you know that his 7.11-yard average per carry this season ranks fourth all-time among QBs – behind Michael Vick (8.45 in 2006 and 7.52 in 2004 while with the Atlanta Falcons) and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Randall Cunningham (7.98 in 1990)? Or that Wilson’s passer rating in road games this season is 105.3, in large part because he has thrown 12 TD passes and one interception? Or that his passer rating in games against NFC West opponents is 105.0, again largely due to the fact that he’s thrown five TD passes and one interception? Those are very pertinent because the Seahawks play the NFC West-leading Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday night. But wait, there’s more. Wilson’s passer rating on first-and-11-plus is 125.0. And on second-and-11-plus it’s 119.0. In the second half of the season, his passer rating is 106.5 for his career. It’s 108.3 in November games, when he has thrown 17 TDs and four interceptions; and 100.0 in December games, when he has 19 TDs and six interceptions. And then there’s what just might be Wilson’s most impressive accomplishment: 46 regular-season starts in 46 regular-season games. “I’ve been fortunate in my career. I was able to coach a guy that played forever and ever, and you just expected him to be out there each and every game regardless,” offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said of his time with Brett Favre when both were with the Minnesota Vikings. “I think we have a similar guy with Russell. Not that he hasn’t taken hits, he’s taken some hits. But the best thing about him, we talk about all the time, is the decisions that he makes. Most of the time, he keeps himself out of harm’s way. He’s able to be nimble enough in the pocket to escape some things. When he gets out and runs, he gets down or he gets out of bounds. All those decisions really help him to be able to stay in there.” Not just on game day, but the days leading up to the games. “That helps our preparation,” Bevell said. “To count on him, that he’s going to be in there, we can improve the things that need to improve on and we can focus in on the things that he needs to work on.”
