Second Sunday of Advent: Mark 1:1-8: Mark sees the ministry of John the Baptist, characterized by a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as fulfilling the prophecies of Isaiah and Malachi. He also describes the appearance of John the Baptist in a way reminiscent of the prophet Elijah. Johns insistence that I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit points to a clear distinction between John and the coming Messiah. During Advent, we continue to wait in eager expectation for Gods holy presence. Light your second Advent candle and pray with your family for peace in the world.
