Second day of the Action Asia Peacebuilders Forum. Nang Raw Zhakung, introduced as one of the most strategic civil society participant in the Myanmar peace process gave a detailed and updated description (16 armed groups negotiating with government, 14 ceasefire agreements signed) of its complex architecture. For the GRP-MILF peace process, Emma Leslie asked some participants to illustrate the innovative role of an 8-person group (4 government, 4 NGO) who were inside the same rooms as the formal negotiating panels and Malaysian mediator. She reiterated the advice of Dekha, the peace builder from Kenya, Take your ego out of it. Kaloy Manlupig, co-moderator of the session, ended with the reflection that we should look at complex peace processes as journeys - with different dynamics and companions, even if committed to move in the same direction.
