Second important piece of information: Education funders are not working in the communitys best interest. They are working in the best interest of their donors. I remember meeting with Susan Brownlee from the Grable Foundation right before A-Plus Schools formed. I was asking her to consider finding a parent organizing project, so that parents could work together for the things they believed their children needed in the schools. She looked me in the eyes, and flat out told me, We are not funding parent organizing. Parents do not know anything about education. (I almost thought she said peasant instead of parent...) I was SO shocked, I just thanked her and ushered her out the door. The next week, she was the Executive Director of A Plus Schools.
