Secret on How to Have a Happy, Smart Child. Bailey, 24 Months Old; Advance CLQ Development At approximately 14-17 months of age Bailey sings simple songs such as I love you, and makes 3 word combinations. She often tells us what farm animals such as Moo for a cow, bock-bock-bock for chicken, quack for a duck. At 18-20 months Bailey can count to 3 without being helped. She will hold two objects (one in each hand) and say “two.” At 21-24 months Bailey often speaks in full sentences and will repeat almost any word spoken to her. For example, she said “photosynthesis” after we talked about what it is when we were hiking & looking at leaves on trees. Bailey counts up to 6 without being prompted; if helped & someone counts with her she can count up to 20 without losing her attention span. She recognizes numbers 1-5 when asked to point them out. During the newborn period, a baby’s sense of vision, hearing, touch, space, smell, and taste are already developed. Vision, hearing, and touch, are the three most important senses that a newborn uses most of the time. The baby obviously does not notice how their brain works nor most parents are aware of brain development. But in spite of the failure of most parents from knowing the latest findings in brain development, their infants would naturally be able to acquire their native language and learn how to count. However, if most parents are educated on how the brain of their child develops, they might be able to accelerate the Cognitive, Language, and Quantitative (CLQ) development of their children. Here comes the role of pediatricians and primary care physicians. They should tell the parents how the amygdala, hippocampus, and pre-frontal areas of the brain work. For a baby to acquire advanced CLQ the amygdala should first mature and be stimulated by the immediate environment of the child: the parents, the mother in most instances. This is where the animated, enthusiastic, energetic, joyful play comes in. The basic stimulus that would help the development of the amygdala to its maximum potential is the happy and joyful interaction between the baby and the mother during the most critical period of attachment, the first 12 to 18 months of life. Once the baby develops an attachment with one of the parent, the development of hippocampus and the pre frontal cortex is almost assured. The baby will then have a great chance of being advanced in CLQ development. You might ask why is it important that the hippocampus, aymgdala, and pre-frontal cortex are positively stimulated. This triumvirate of the brain will largely determine their future. These brain centers would bring language development advanced by at least two to three months compared to their peers whose parents did not apply the latest brain development research findings. This advantage if it occurs during the first 12 to 18 months means a lot more. It means that at 24 months they will be able to talk like a four year old. They will be saying sentences with four, five, or six words like a pro. Children at 24 months old who talk like a four year old has a higher chance to be smarter than their peers and will be in the top ten of their elementary grade. These are the children who will be always in the honor roll if their parents stay happy without marital and financial problems. Finishing master’s degree or doctorate will be easy for them to do. L.
