Secretary of State John Kerry recently used an argument to promote US emphasis on climate change, aka global warming. He infamously asked, “What’s the worst thing that could happen if climate skeptics are wrong?” I would like to propose using this same technique about surrendering one’s life to Jesus: What’s the worst thing that could happen if unbelievers are wrong?” The answer is they live a slave to sin while on earth and are condemned for eternity. As Bob Dylan sings in Gotta Serve Somebody, “it may be the devil or it may be the Lord but youre gonna have to serve somebody.” This brings me back to climate change. How does a Christian who really knows that God is loving and merciful, and who has given us promises about our future reconcile promoting a belief that John Kerry suggests will bring about “the end of life on earth as we know it”? I’m sorry, but this is not in the realm of possibilities given the God with whom I have an intimate relationship. Bob Dylan is absolutely right in his warning--there is no neutral ground. As for me, I live with belief-- I serve the Lord, and I do not live in fear of Kerrys doom day scenario. Those living with unbelief? well they serve Satan, aka “the deceiver”, and they are subject to his manipulation.
