Secular progressive paganism and the French Reign of Terror - TopicsExpress

Secular progressive paganism and the French Reign of Terror (1793-1794) It is my personal opinion that secular progressive paganism was born in the Reign of Terror, when the Goddess of Reason was celebrated on the high altar of Notre Dame Cathedral.on10 Brumaire, Year II (11/10/1793). But Reason proved to be a viciously fickle Goddess as thousands were imprisoned (200,000 +) and thousands (16,000 to 25,000) were slaughtered in the name of freedom by order of the Committee of Public Safety. Like a feral cat howling in the middle of the night, the ideas of the bloody revolution were conceived by multiple fathers; the ideologues of the so-called Enlightenment. However, the full flowering of the Reign of Terror, government established irreligion, did not happen until the 20th century. “Organized irreligion in the twentieth century committed atrocities on a scale that the fiercest religious wars never approached. The scientific racism of Nazi Germany killed forty million and attempted genocide against Europe’s Jews. The scientific socialism of the communist countries killed a hundred million (and till counting) .people around the globe. As the Soviet dissident Vladimir Bukovsky has noted, people in the West routinely invoke the Spanish Inquisition as an example of religious horror. And they are right to do so. But the Inquisition, in the course of three centuries, and after legal procedures of a sort, killed fewer people––probably around three thousand–– than the Soviet Union killed in an average day. Callous, large scale, extrajudicial slaughter of secular and religious figures for ideological reasons began soon after the French Revolution and continues in many countries around the world down to the present day. And European Christianity in the same period can point to several humanizing features that several of the most prominent secular movements cannot (Robert Royal, “The God that Did Not Fail-How Religion Built and Sustains the West,” xvii).” Why is secular progressive paganism so dangerous to human liberty?
