Security News (Sept 19) : GSAT-7 begins in-orbit tests Source: The Hindu, India | 19th September 2013 thehindu/news/national/gsat7-begins-inorbit-tests/article5142802.ece ISRO has said the 11 transponders on the GSAT-7 communication satellite have been switched on and they performed well during preliminary tests. GSAT-7 is the country’s first full-fledged military communications satellite and it will be used by the Navy for its ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications. ISRO has earlier said the satellite would be functionally readied for its user by the end of September. Launched on August 30 from Kourou in French Guiana, the multi-band satellite has transponders operating in the UHF, S, C and Ku-bands. GSAT-7 is positioned in its planned orbital slot of 74 degrees East longitude.
