Security on Military Installations has been cut by sequestration...old news....the Civilian and or Federal DOJ Police that handle what military personnel used too were scaled back a while ago....resulting in closed gates and restricted hours of access on many a military installation.....yet no one complained when it happened except some local newspapers.....now the media is making a big deal out of a ‘too little-too late’ because of Monday’s shooting at the Navy Yard…..as for security….it is too laugh….I was on and off post in basic…for AWOL pizza and beer on a regular basis…any kid who was good at hide and seek can get on and off and around on just about any installation…the only danger are the ‘kill zones’ where either soldiers or ‘spook’ contractors are furnished live rounds and are told to shoot first and interrogate the corpse….later….. personally…if on duty one should be wearing a side-arm..locked…cocked and ready or a long-arm in the same manner….and as the military is on duty 24-7 they should be armed whenever not sleeping…..and while sleeping should be within arms reach of said arm…end of story….I’d feel a lot safer with armed service personnel in my grocery store…or on the road....their presence would keep the police from acting stupidly….I mean really…think a cop is gonna act like a punk gangsta with a bunch of armed grunts around….heh-heh-heh….of course that means the military will be in uniform unless on official pass or leave…..works for me….but then again…I had to carry a pass to legally get on and off base…..even when living off post with separate rations…..only us old farts and our dependants remember them days……different army…..
