Sedition spree brightens Pakatans Putrajaya bid As more face action under the Sedition Act, DAP’s MP for Puchong Gobind Singh Deo has a message to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. By Gobind’s reckoning, the more people arrested under the Sedition Act, the greater the chances of Pakatan Rakyat replacing the BN government at Putrajaya. Let me remind Najib, when you use this law (Sedition Act) to frighten the people, when you use this law to suppress them, the stronger they become and the more they stand up against you, he said at a DAP dinner in Kuching last night. If you think you can put fear in the people, you are wrong, because Malaysians today can feel, they can see and understand, and you can take them to court and they are not afraid. But the more Malaysians you arrested, the faster your BN government will fall, he said. The Selangor DAP deputy chairperson said that Najib had promised to turn Malaysia into the world’s best democracy by repealing the Internal Security Act (ISA), but he is now using the Sedition Act to arrest those who do not agree. Members of Parliament who have been elected by the people to speak in Parliament have also been arrested, he said. Among others, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and Padang Serai MP N Surendran have been charged with sedition. The worst PM Gobind, who is also a lawyer, said that the constitution guarantees freedom of speech but this is disregarded through the use of the Sedition Act (Najib) is turning Malaysia into the worst democracy..In fact, he is the worse prime minister, he said. Najib had in 2012 promised to repeal the Sedition Act but last week said the government is now reviewing if it should amend it or replace it with a National Harmony Act. He said that the government has engaged various opposing stakeholders on the matter, including Malay groups who fear the repeal will open the monarchy and special position of Malays to attack. However, Najib assured that any amendment or new law will safeguard the royal institution and the special position of Malays and bumiputera. Dukau Papau Malaysiakini 16.9.2014
