See a recent interview with Scott Rubel 75 on Rubel Castle. Enjoy this bit of California history with Midland influence. For background, heres a feature we posted in an E-news last February: Rubel Castle was established in Glendora,California, by Midlander Michael Clarke Rubel 58. Michael attended Midland in the mid-1950s and attributed a significant part of his personal development to the School. His nephew, Scott Rubel 75 has succeeded in getting Rubel Castle designated as a National Historic Landmark. Rubel Castle has quite a bit of Midland in it. - Scott Rubel 75 In 2003 a book on Rubel Castle was published entitled One Mans Dream. It relates the tale of a magical castle built in the midst of an elegant residential neighborhood of Glendora, California. It was created by a man who had the same dream as William Randolph Hearst, but lacked the resources to accomplish it. This was the work of Michael Rubel and his band of volunteers called, The Pharm Hands. Rubel Castle was arguably the first major recycling project in the United States. bit.ly/sunshine_rubel_interview_1 Scott writes that there are many minutes of preamble before his part of this show starts. You can try advancing the little slider bar almost a third of the way from the left if you want to skip over the introduction part on Los Angeles history or conservation.
