See announcement and info below. CERT is a national program training community members in how to support their community before, during and after disasters and emergencies. It is a lot of fun, a ton of great info, and really cool, plus upon completion you are an official city volunteer. That said it is also a commitment to joining your local team and getting out there to get to know and support your community, so might not be for everyone. Also usually requires a background check and the training is 10 weeks, one evening a week. Any questions just ask me cause I ma now a member of CERT Brooklyn 3/4, and loving it! Looking at you Joe Page and Tamika Johnson!!! NYC CERT Applications Open - We are happy to announce that NYC Office of Emergency Management is now accepting applications for our upcoming CERT training cycle that beings in February. OEMs Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) are groups of local volunteers who have undergone a 10-week training program that focuses on emergency preparedness, fire safety, traffic control, disaster medical operations, and more. CERT members serve their community by assisting first responders, helping at citywide planned events, and educating the public about emergency preparedness.
