Please contact Kathy Dougherty, Anthropology Collections Manager for further information: [email protected] Position Title: Anthropology Collections Assistant Department: Collections Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt, project duration (through September 2015) Supervisor Title: Anthropology Collections Manager Position Description: The Anthropology Collections Assistant reports to the Anthropology Collections Manager, and will work on a variety of collections projects, including Coconino National Forest (CNF) collections curation, CNF NAGPRA projects, and photographing Bureau of Indian Affairs collections. The Anthropology Collections Assistant is responsible for the curation, photography, and cataloging of archaeological artifacts, including re-housing and data entry. Major Tasks and Responsibilities: • Cataloging • Data entry • Re-housing • Digital Photography • Correct errors in data entry and cataloging Minimum Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of and experience with curation techniques, preservation requirements, archival storage needs, and registration procedures for collections. 2. Familiarity with archaeological investigation techniques, artifact types, and documentation. 3. Knowledge and skill in the use of ARGUS database or other collections management databases. 4. Ability to use digital imaging techniques and equipment, as well as photo manipulation software, such as Photoshop. 5. Ability to communicate with clarity and conciseness, both verbally and in written documents. 6. Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. 7. Ability to work independently. Is self-motivated and capable of evaluation of complex situations, seeking guidance when necessary. 8. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all professional matters. 9. Master’s degree in Museum Studies or related field preferred, or a graduate student majoring in Anthropology or related field. Working Conditions: Generally work indoors during business hours, Monday through Friday. Candidate should be comfortable sitting or standing for long periods, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and climbing up and down ladders. MNA is willing to work around school schedules for students.
