Seed9 rally is in the books. This was an extremely rough event and provided us with a lot of valuable information about how to make the #gt86 unstoppable when it comes out for the 2015 season. Chris Duplessis was nearly finished with SS4 when a small washout unloaded the suspension at the perfect moment to slam the front right wheel into the face of a very large washout. He was flat out in 5th gear, hit the wash, and continued racing. His comment was the steering feels funny and only pulled off the road when the car lost power. The power issue is probably just an alternator, there are no indications of a serious problem there. What had happened is the lower ball joint receiver on the wrx knuckles we use broke around the tension tab that holds the factory ball joint in. We use a 4140 chromoly pin that we make in house to replace the factory ball joint. This pin is what we mount the heim joint too at the end of the control arm. What we found is that the pin changes the dynamics of this joint in a way that puts a massive amount of stress on the knuckle which leads to the failure we saw at Seed9. We already have a solution to the problem, we will be putting in some serious testing leading up to 2015. The video from Seed9 will be released very soon.
