Seeds will contribute to strengthening the local economy, revitalizing downtown and provide living wage jobs. In addition to the Café service, Seeds will work with individuals seeking new job skills and self-sufficiency, training them to work in the food production, restaurant and food service industries. Families and individuals using government or other food subsidies, for example, will have free access to shopping and cooking courses to help them learn to economize and prepare healthy meals. Seeds will employ individuals facing job insecurity to work in the café and to assist with the catering services provided by the organization. We also plan to train baristas, with support from local coffee enterprise, Colorado Coffee Merchants. Volunteers may help out at the Café, or in a local community garden providing organic produce for the Cafe. Community outreach is also fundamental to Seeds’ mission – we will provide educational seminars/workshops to community groups, schools, and other organizations.
