Seeing Jesus in Psalm 43 - Light and Truth Psalm 43:3 - Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! We are blessed in our world today to have a lot of technology that prevents us from becoming physically lost. Now we dont have to face the horror of pulling into a gas station and asking for directions we can simply ask our smart phone or plug it into our GPS which is reason to be extremely thankful for most men. I know I got lost one time in a town with only one red light and refused to pull in and ask for directions. After all how hard could it be to get out? We dont get lost physically as easy as we used to.But we still needd something to guide us dont we? We need something to help point us in the right direction. David says we need light and truth, specifically that we need the light and truth of God. Sometimes those things can be hard to take cant they? Sometimes the truth hurts or to quote a line from a famous movie, you want the truth you cant handle the truth. Light hurts as well, especially light that quickly and suddenly pierces the darkness. Yet David says that is what he needs. He needs Gods light and Gods truth, and if he the king of the country needs those things, how much more do we need them? We walk in darkness, yet thanks be to God that a great light has dawned. Jesus the Lord of creation has burst into the world and His light shines forth. Even more personally His light has shone into our lives and through Him we have been brought from death to life. His light makes us alive. Because of that we should rejoice, as Russell Moore says we should eat, drink, and be merry for yesterday we were dead. Now however through Jesus light we have been made alive and delivered from the kingdom of darkness.Of course its not only light we need, it is also truth. We need Gods truth to wake us up and specifically to show us the truth of our need for God. Jesus says, I am the truth, and that truth proclaims to us we are all sinners in desperate need of a Savior. We need Jesus, the truth to take our sins away.Light and truth, two needs of every human heart. Two things that we see most wondrously and powerfully displayed on Gods holy hill, a hill called Calvary. For up Calvarys mountain we see Jesus crucified but even then we see His light shining forth. We see it shining on a criminal who cries out for mercy and hears some of the most beautiful words ever spoken, today you will be with me in paradise. Even in historys darkest hour light shone forth. Even in a trial surrounded by unfairness and lies, Gods truth was still evident. A truth that the Roman centurion witnessed when he cried out truly this was the Son of God. Light in darkness and truth in the midst of lies. That is the power of God and that same power is available to us each day. For we still need Gods light and Gods truth, not just to save us but everyday of our lives as we seek to follow Him. So we keep our eyes focused on the cross, our hearts centered on the empty tomb, and our minds saturated with the Gospel for it is there that we see Gods grace and truth majestically on display. To God be the glory!
