Seeing Nigel Latta getso much narcissistic mirroring and reinforcement from his lackeys brings to mind a we both walked away conversation I had with him at a homicide victim conference. We were introduced as wed both worked with killers in forensic psychiatric justic service facilities. He had just made a despicable speech in which he disclosed a story about a convo he had with a patient that had reinforced Nigels distorted world view that not even his training a a psych had corrected. ? is he a hellfire religomaniac springs to mind. Anyway back on topic, he told sensible sentencing homicide conference hed conversed with a killer with psych dysfunction and said that tho the killer had a horrendous darklands kinda upbringing that the killer had told him he still had choice in whether to murder or not and then made a plea to Nigel to not take at least that away from me. Voila, score for Nigel. Uh Nigel no, wrong... just because this killer likes to believe in himself as all powerful and the master of his destiny that does not make it reality. Just because he believes in the moral religious framework you too are conditioned by does not make it true or you a better choice maker than him... or him just BAAAD. In fact any decent psycholoist would acknowledge that the killers choices were much more restricted, given his genes/environment he was always going to end up in a cell talking to you... and vice versa. You are not innately morally superior. If you had occupied his nappies and brain (set up to fail at choices by poor nurturing and likely a good measure of frontal lobe injury affecting impulse control) from feral parents you would be him. The guy sitting there pleading with you to at least affirm that your antisocial personality is authentic. And someone would still be dead. Nigel Latta - bringing reinforcement of bitterness, them and us-ness and heinous unwarranted judgementalism to NZs most high profile crime victims. What makes this worse is that he has the education to know better - I can only conclude that strong narcissistic traits allow Latta to misuse his professional knowledge to go out and undermine true understanding and healing. He may be glib and charming but something very cold lies underneath. An interesting character, but not one Id let date your daughters!
