Seeing all the old photos of Fairgrounds Speedway (I refuse to call it State Fair Speedway) I wish I could have seen the closing coming so I could have had somebody take a picture of me sitting in my spot where I had set since 1983. Right above the tunnel on the north end, in the approximate area where David Jones, the Strawns and the Lamberts would sit. It was a place where a young Danny Jennings would come and briefly sit as well as Kelly Dawson (who worked with the All-Star Circuit of Champions), Kenny Mossman, Tim Allen, Jaime Jennings, Bill Armstrong and countless others. The spot where I would have an attitude when I got there and it was taken. In fact, there towards the end, an older couple picked up my blanket that I had strapped down and threw it somewhere else while I was in the pit area. I came back up and asked where that blanket was and was quoted, Maybe you forgot where you put it? I angrily yelled I have sat in that God Damn spot since 1983 and I know where I put my stuff. Seeing drunks come from the top of the bleachers and walking down the cement steps, only to face plant right in front of me. Looking down below as people were walking into and out of the stands had its scenery as well. If only we had that warning and one last chance.
