Seeing as its Australia Day, I thought Id post this brilliant remake of Icehouses Great Southern Land, by Doug Rowe, founding member of The Flying Circus, to youtube. Mindyou, no sign of 80s synthesizers or electronic drums here...its all guitars & Mandolins to the fore, a REAL band performing high Quality, good rockin Country, which build up a considerable head of steam, and some very tasty lead guitar before it finishes almost 8 minutes later. Doug Rowe was a Country rock pioneer in Australia when he formed Flying Circus in 1968, and their Aussie bubble gum hits aside, released 5 high quality albums, which enjoyed much success in Canada where they had several hits, & in some parts of the US. When he returned in 1980, Doug joined Tamworth Golden Guitar winners Grand Junction, & later still, The Woodpickers alongside Broderick Smith, Bill Chambers, Kevin Bennett & other floating personell. Doug finally got around to recording his own solo album in 2000, which included this stunning remake...hope you enjoy it :-)
