Seeing its Mothers Day and I am thinking about My Mum again i wanted to share this. I dont want it to be a sad thing but 1 of the reasons I Love remembering the 70s so much. Bit of a Rosie Posie 70s Biography.. End of 1975 I was at Mentone Girls High School and last week of year. our whole family was going to Rye the next week and setting up the 4 room Tent for 6 weeks over Christmas Holidays.Tent had the Fold up Kitchen Sink, Laminate Table and chairs and we had an Ice Chest for a fridge. 3 Little rooms with Canvas fold out beds and a family area. Not long ago i was busted smoking (my bro dobbed me in to Dad and i copped a Slap) so on the way up to Rye, Mum and I were in her little Morris Minor and she got a smoke out of her packet (Park Drive that I bought at the Servo for her lol) and handed it to me, with the lighter and winked at me. Dad and the Bros were in the Holden Wagon just ahead of us and I was shit scared of Dad, so i slid down in my seat and lit Mums smoke.. Passed it back to her and she smoked it all. (Mum used to collect the money from people getting there Milk Delivered. I went with her 1 day and she left me in the Morry while she went and spoke to a lady. I played with the handbrake and the car started rolling down the hill. I was screaming to mum but she took a minute to notice, she bolted down the hill, jumped in and pulled the handbrake on).. We settled in at Rye, week or so later at Rye Trampolines (near the Pier) I was sharing trampoline time with Frankie, who was the offsider of Wayne (Nice looking guy, tall and long blonde hair) who had the nicest FJ Holden in town and I got to drive in the car with them up and down the main streets of Rye. Just friends but Frankie and i were flirting. Bouncing on the same trampoline and as we went up, he put both his hands on my Boobs and pushed me down onto my back on the tramp. I burst out laughing, turned around and saw my Mum standing out the front looking straight at us.. I nearly died. She just walked off but i was So dead when i got home i thought. Anyway not much was said but i got raised eyebrows from her. Few days later we went to Rosebud, parents went shops and us kids were in the Slot Cars and Pinnie place. Having a smoke on the seats and Mum walks in, looks my way and i chucked my smoke under the bench.. She calls the bros and walks my way, Raises her eyebrows again and says come on.. I said Can i finish it?, she says no and i leave (spewing).. New Years Eve 1975 we are all out on the Road screaming and yelling at all the cars, throwing toilet paper and blowing whistles (as you did in Rye). Did the usual stuff you did with the Fam in Rye the next 13 days. Going to the Carnival (Loved the Matterhorn). Scared to death of the Zipper..Hanging on the beach getting burnt rotten, deciding which color Zinc to put on our nose, going for boat rides on super fast friends boats, , fishing with Dad, then watching him scale and clean Flathead, then Mum would make a batter and we would pick bones out of our Fish and there were heaps. Then my older Bro went back to Melb to work, so just my little bro and I, Mum and Dad were in the tent...!4th January 1976 I woke up and heard some strange lady in the other part of the tent. I got up and put Mums dressing gown on (She had given it to me the morning before so it was on the end of my bed), went to the curtain door and pulled it open slightly. Saw Dad sitting there and then some strange lady putting the kettle on). Said whats wrong and Dad said go back to bed. But the Lady said No, You better tell her now Mum had passed away. (from tripping over a Tent Peg which caused a Blood Clot in her Heart to Burst). Anyway all those great memories with her, at that time are still in my head.. I never went back to school that year, as Dad made me stay home and be the Woman of the House at 14 years old...But i was hangen in Fj Holdens. hangen with boys, wearing Treads and doing amazing fun things which i remember everyday. Then time went on and Dad got a bit slack at watching out for us and i used to hang around with Sharpies around Mentone Station. Hooked up with 1 of the main Shapies little bro for a while and got to wear his Connie ..Then the Station got taken over by all these Skinheads, so we hung around the Lifesaving Club in Mentone with the Surfy boys.. then 15 years old, Hitchhiking to Olivias in St.Kilda everyweek, Going to Les Girls ...Oh more tales to tell lol.... The never ending memories.. Happy Mothers Day from a 70s Lover xxxx
