Seeing this advert a lot on Facebook. Got me thinking (and annoyed) Now, I am not for a moment suggesting that hot dogs are the greatest culinary delight on the planet, but what is it with the UK attitude to food? In other European countries they value the animals they eat and make good from pretty much all parts of them (as the Spanish say, everything but the squeak). Why are such cuts over here considered queasy or wrong. Pigs cheeks are divine! Indeed most offal cuts have more taste to them from what we are sold as over priced prime cuts from any animal. On Burns night we enjoyed haggis which I personally think is gorgeous. Yet I saw plenty of comments saying urghhh and know even more people who are turned off by it. So it has hearts, stomach and lungs in it? What would be better - to just throw them away? (And this is nothing to do with vegetarianism - for a vegetarian who eats no meat the distinction between whether a cut comes from a back, rib, backside or internal organ should make no difference.) If we are going to rear animals for food, the least we can do is eat all that is edible and waste nothing. Surely? (and yes, I know there is a Monsanto angle here, not referring to that).
