Seeking Alpha? Forget Leverage. Shariah Is the New Word - Even Goldman is talking about it One of the outstanding passages in the Quran – one that stuck in my mind had to do with the story where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was in a market place one day. He saw a fruit seller and he placed his hand under the fruits and felt some were moist and wet. And the Prophet said to the fruit seller – what’s this? And the fruit seller said this was because the fruits were storm-damaged. And the Prophet said why did you not put on the outside so everyone could see? And the Prophet further said, “He who deceives is not one of us.” To me this is very, very clear. And it must be one of the clearest statements on transparency I have ever read and come across. And one that is always stuck in my mind and it brought me to think the difference between disclosure and transparency. We all know about disclosure because lawyers put it all in investment statements, our prospectuses and our financial statements. We all know about regulators and how they like disclosure but its transparency that tests the veracity of the disclosure.” – Alan Goldman, co-founder and director of Goldman Henry, and designer of Shariah-compliant and ethical AmanahNZ unit trust AmanahNZ, which invests in 50 stocks listed on the NYSE, AMEX or Main Board NASDAQ, hits another record high today (26 Aug) at USD 4.5726 a unit, up 38.19% since inception on 11th June 2012, after deducting fees, expenses, purification and applicable tax.
