Seeking Parents to Participate on School District Committees Ankeny parents, are you interested in helping guide and shape the future of your student’s school system? We need your help! The Ankeny Community School District is seeking parent volunteers to serve on a number of Board of Education-approved committees: Finance Committee – If you have expertise in finance and money matters, we would love to have your assistance on the finance committee. Policy Committee – Be a part of the committee that reviews, revises and recommends policy to the Board of Education to create a foundation for the orderly operation of Ankeny Schools. Equity Committee - The Department of Education requires districts to embed processes to afford equity and promote diversity into the district. This committee provides advice and consultation to the district in its efforts to comply with these requirements. Members of minority groups are encouraged to participate. Standards-Based Grading and Reporting Committee – This group will lead the communication efforts around assessment and grading practices and how they align with the Iowa Core. In addition, there are several superintendent’s committees that need parent participation: World Language – In the second year of this task force, participants will generate and conduct a stakeholder survey based on research done last year, to gauge parent interest in various world language program options. Bullying and Harassment – In the second year of this task force, participants will work on new strategies to eliminate and deal with bullying, to try to stop it before it starts. Technology Leadership – In the second year of this task force, we are looking for people with a passion for 21st century learning who will lead the implementation of the Technology Plan generated by a task force in 2012-2013.
