Seems every time we try and get the minimum wage raised so families can afford to feed their children and pay the rent , we get the same old tired arguments that have been repeated by Republicans for Decades. It will only raise the cost of living they say because business will raise their costs to consumers . REALLY ? Then explain to me why every land lord in the Northern Panhandle went stark raving crazy and doubled and tripled their rents even to those who were long term renters ? There was no increase in their costs ? There were no increases to workers wages that caused that ! We all know why they raised their rents - because they could and they wanted to milk the pipeliners and drillers for every dollar they could squeeze from them . Business in General over the last 30 to 40 years, at least since 1980 have raised prices of Goods and Services Far FAR FAR beyond any wage increases they may have incurred . In FACT, almost all workers suffered from the Cost of Living Going up over the last 30 to 40 years while their wages didnt even keep pace with Inflation. Corporate CEOs are making Excessive amounts of money that is really obscene when considering how little they are paying their workers for their toils. It has never been so lopsided in terms of CEO compensation to Workers wages as it is now unless you go all the way back to the roaring 20s ! The Cost of our Living is based far more on the whims and fancies of the Corporate Decision makers wishes to Raise their Prices and Increase their Profit Margins than it has ever been about the wages paid to the workforce . Wages are a simple cost of doing business - every business has that cost. If you are a business and you can not pay a real living wage to your employees then you should get out of your business and do something else because you are not a competent manager or you are not in a Viable Business to begin with. Increasing wages leads to MORE MONEY in the Economy not less Workers who can make enough money from wages to take care of their Bills and Feed their Families will have more money to buy your goods and services Mr and Mrs Business People. It is That SIMPLE. The Tired old Trickle Down economics of Ronald Raygun have been proven to be FALSE and that they DO NOT work
