Seems like so much happened in just one day. We started off the morning with a wild taxi ride to the famous King Hassan II mosque here in Casablanca. The ride in itself was an adventure. I dont know how people manage to drive here without getting into an accident every block. There are cars going every which way, no one is obeying any rules of the road, there is no such thing as staying within your lane, people are darting in and out of traffic constantly, and motor scooters seem all to have a death wish because they never seem to drive less than two inches from the cars around them. It was incredible. Then there is the challenge of the folks who walk along side your car as you try to make your way through traffic. Some are handing out fliers, some are selling things, and some are begging. Once a guy was walking in between the line of cars and we asked what he might be doing. Zakia, who was driving us at the time, matter-of-factly replied that he was looking to steal from the cars stuck in traffic. She said they look for someone with their window down, especially someone talking on their cell phone. Then they grab the phone right out of the persons hand and take off. I noticed that she wisely drove with her windows closed and the doors locked.
