Seems like whenever I go to Mexico, they are celebrating - TopicsExpress

Seems like whenever I go to Mexico, they are celebrating something. On January 6th we rolled into San Blas, Mexico and it was already dark. The town square was teaming with people and there were long tables stretched around the entire perimeter of the square with a long loaf of sweet bread on each one. Kids were laughing and dancing to the music. Clowns and musicians entertained until the enchanting hour when the bread was finally uncovered, cut up and handed out to hundreds of people throughout the square. I found out later it was the Dia de Reyes which means Day of Kings. This is the final celebration of Christmas which commemorates the three kings bearing gifts to the baby Jesus. Now somewhere in the 1/3 of a mile of bread, there is a baby Jesus. Whoever gets it figuratively becomes baby Jesus godparent and is responsible for next years celebration. We also encountered the baby Jesus in the round cake once before around Mardi Gras in Lafayette, LA.
