Seems the arrest of the 28 year-old mother has caused a wee bit of a stir. We would like to ask everyone a question: Had there been a daycare worker or teacher or bus driver in charge of these four children - and this person left the park for 2 1/2 hours... leaving these children to fend for themselves... would there still be this response? What if one of the children were seriously injured while the mother was away? At the Winter Haven Police Department, we have a statue out front called The Protector, an officer holding the hand of a child. We are dedicated to protecting and serving the citizens. And yes, this includes the smallest ones, especially those who cannot help themselves in the face of danger. Read the post regarding the arrest of the four small children allowed to walk across Ave. T to a park and be unsupervised for more than 2 1/2 hours below. We stand by our officers judgement in taking this mother to jail. We are thankful she went to jail instead of having to go to a hospital (or worse) to check on one of her children.
