Seems too much of a coincidence. Historical note: This is the first popular account of Vlad I have seen which even hints at the likelihood that he learned the notorious tactics he used against the Turks - from the Turks themselves, when he was held hostage prince there. They were not horrified that this Romanian enemy had unleashed some new and terrifying cruelty upon them - they thought it typical. This is part of why Romanians still regard him as a hero - though they have learned to happily take the money of horrified Westerners.
