Seems weird that nine years without my dad have passed. During the first it was impossible to not feel sorrow. During the ninth its almost impossible not to smile whenever I think about or mention him. How long that first year was, and how quickly time is counting down to the day when I will miss him most. I have said time and time again that the only regret I have with my dad is that he never met Alexandria Melhado. That although she thinks me watching a blackhawks game is bad with my screaming, she never watched a soccer game with him to see the master of screaming at his finest during the world cup. That she thinks me invoking logic and quoting history is bad, but never had him tell her THE ENTIRE HISTORY of her name whenever she would visit. That if she thinks me listening to eighties music in any form is old, she never was at my parents house on a Sunday when an entire library of albums from the fifties were blasted on the turntable. That although she finally will watch the occasional old movie with me, she was never forced to watch Julius Caesar with Marlon Brando on vhs and quite possibly quizzed sometime after. That she loves soccer and would have won him over right then and there. That my dad and her dad never had a debate on history and world affairs. That bbqs have not been the same since he left us. That my wedding might feel a tad empty without him, but it wont cause I know hes gonna be there. like hes there when im working my ass off and his voice and my moms strength are what make me work harder. Just like my dad, I found the perfect girl for me, and dammed if Im not ready to spend the rest of my life with her. So if you knew my dad Juan Francisco Lopez, crack open a bud light one of these days and give him a hey up to the sky. And to him later on today when I do, I will say salud, I love you, I miss you, I pray you keep sending us your strength and rest in peace pop.
