Seen in Cinemas: 14-08-2014- Guardians of the Galaxy First of, as the trailer hints at, this movie has a super fun sound track, setting the mood for the film. I am not too familiar with the cosmic setting, and thus these characters, of the Marvel Universe, which is a good thing since I cant make any comparisons to the source material, and thus cant get annoyed when changes that I deem unnecessary are made. Second of all, the CGI was pretty great. Playing out pretty much only in space, and with characters like Rocket Raccoon and Groot, you know theres going to be primarily computer graphics involved, but these films handle them pretty well. The 3D effects, for once, were also not terrible or just down right distracting, but didnt add anything either. The storyline is pretty basic and predictable, but fun enough to hold interest. The same could be said about the characters really. I find it hard to comment on Vin Diesels role as Groot since hes completely computer generated, and doesnt really say much, but I felt that Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista did just an okay job at best with Gamora and Drax the Destroyer respectively. Bradley Cooper did some amazing voice acting for Rocket though. Chris Pratt plays the lovable jerk role of Peter Quill perfectly as well. What I felt is the biggest flaw of this movie is that it moves too quick. Things happen and character stories change without too much explanation or time for growth. But also with the universe it is placed in this is true. Weve barely begun exploring earth with all the super heroes and villains running around, and yet were already going of to the cosmos. I do think its a rather bold move to release a movie with characters that the mainstream public will not have heard about, but I think it payed off well, having turned out to be a fun flick. I for one am looking forward to the expected sequel and how the plot elements introduced wil effect later movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
