Seen in Cinemas: 15-08-2014- The Expendables 3 I loved the previous two movies. The first one was a more serious action flick that made fun of its actors, whereas the sequel was pretty much a comedy that spoofed the entire action genre. They kind of wrote themselfs into a corner with the second one, since they went so far over the top that I dont really see how they couldve elevated a new one above that. With this in mind I went into this film with the expectation that it would probably be somewhere in the middle of the two, and I was right. The plot has the same serious tone as the first one had, with a lot of the goofyness found in Expendables 2 sprinkled on top. I can say it probably has the best one liners out of the three. You can basically splits this movie into three parts. The first has the old team on a mission, the second has the new team being formed and adventuring, and the finale has them both together. The opening of the film is basically what youd expect if youve seen the other two. The segment after that was completely unconvincing and feels very forced. The young guns dont have any chemistry together whatsoever. I also havent seen any of them in other films for as far as I could remember, which I feel goes against the theme of the franchise. It also moved along pretty slow and didnt have a lot of action going on. There were great opportunities here to make fun of modern day action flicks and compare them to those the oldies were in, but it just falls flat on all accounts. The last part was great again. Really though, I think the worst thing you could do going into this movie is watching the trailer beforehand. It gives away way too many plot elements, and though this isnt any deeper than blow stuff up, the few surprises it could have had are spoiled in it. Amusing watch overall, if you can manage through the middle part of the movie.
