Seen in Cinemas: 24-09-2014- Sin City: A Dame To Kill For The 2005 film Sin City is one of my personal favorites, and Ive been waiting for the sequel ever since I heared it was announced in 2007 or so. So thats a wait of basically seven years. After all of the delays since then, for a number of reasons that Ive read about, I actually sort of figured that it wouldnt come to happen, and the idea dropped from my mind, so I completely freaked when I unexpectedly saw the trailer a few months ago (: Most of the cast from the first film returns, with the exception of Michael Clarke Duncan who regretfully died a few years ago and is replaced by Dennis Haysbert for the role of Manute, and Devon Aoki not returning as Miho due to her pregnancy, so Jamie Chung was cadt in that role. The former puts down a good job, though I am not a fan of the latter actress, but at least its a silent role she plays. At any rate it takes away from the movie when actors get replaced, so that was kind of a shame. This movie, like the previous one, tells a few different stories, whihc take place before, after and even during the ones told in its predecessor. Trying to place where everything goes in the timeline was a nice way to get back into the overall plot. The movie starts with a short segment starring Marv, and this one sets the tone for the rest of the movie... regretfully not in a good way. For some reason, this segment was a lot more violent then what the first movie had, which sounds strange and almost impossible, but the difference lies in the fact that its the senceless kind in here. I loved the first movie its comic type scenes and this first part of the movie kind of takes it to the extreme to the point where instead of adding to the experience it rather distracts from it. Now, the rest of the movie actually returns to the cinegraphic status quo that the previous installment set, but this first segment already sets a tone and mood that I didnt particularly like, and couldnt really shake during the rest of the film. The second story stars Joseph Gordon Levitts character and is my favorite plotline in the movie. Its splits into two parts with a story of Dwight, pre-face reconstruction and thus played by Josh Brolin instead of Clive Owen, placed inbetween. Good performances overall in these. The last one is based around Nancy four years after Hartigan killed himself. This was by far the weakest one of the bunch, mostly because Jessica Alba just being a terrible actress. What I didnt like was the way that Marv was shoe horned into every story told in this movie. It felt really out of place and in one of them he literally says hes there just because he has nothing better to do. Overall this was a decent watch but I think my expectation were a bit too high which resulted in my current slightly disappointed view on the film. Perhaps a second viewing will change my thoughts on some of the things that irk me, but its still worth watching if you liked the first one.
