Segovia taught listening by quietly ripping his chest open and demanding quality and participation from his audience - famous for stopping in the middle of a piece if someone coughed. Picassos Guitarist is the image that goes with that listening for me - you just cant walk past that bum - the light is too intense! Check it out and imagine walking past that guy on the street! I wish I could show you Syd Shanos Guitarist that when you participate in seeing it, you can actually hear the painting playing - but Shano gave the painting to Segovia. That painting didnt just overwhelm the room, it overwhelmed the whole house! Whether you like it is a tiny minuscule part of listening to music! Heres the amazing Glenn Gould bursting with passion and brilliance and joy. His music is only matched for me by that old and crippled man whos name I never learned who sang Mevlevi tunes which are normally so somber with so much joy it was difficult not to leap up and turn. The world wasnt so shy but revolved with grace descending and rising unable to observe etiquette to that - that - whatever it was! Heres a taster of Glenn Gould talking (and playing) about the Art of the Fugue: https://youtube/watch?v=AirAT7gN6A0
