Seizure of artworks illegal, Imelda Marcos insists Former First Lady Imelda Marcos, now Ilocos Norte representative, expressed on Christmas Day her disappointment with the government for siezing her family’s art collection last September. “They illegally auctioned the thousand of paintings. The paintings there were the best in the world… and they auctioned it off. This is too much now,” she said in a report on “24 Oras” aired on Thursday. Marcos also insisted that she has documents that verify that artworks by Michelangelo, Pablo Picasso, and other famous painters were given to her as gifts. Despite the seizure, Marcos still believes that her family will get back what is “rightfully” theirs. “Justice and truth sometimes grind exceedingly slow but it will grind exceedingly well. I am a believer and I know it will happen,” she said. In September, a raiding team executing a writ of attachment from the Sandiganbayan seized at least 15 paintings from the Marcos family’s ancestral home in San Juan City. The seized artworks are under the custody of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The central bank has already asked the Sandiganbayan to transfer the paintings elsewhere because it is ill-equipped to store and preserve them. Aside from reclaiming her artworks, the former first lady of the Philippines also revealed her ultimate Christmas wish: an “honorable burial” for former President Ferdinand Marcos. — Trisha Macas/JDS, GMA News The post Seizure of artworks illegal, Imelda Marcos insists appeared first on Pinoy Magazine.
