Sejusa, Museveni Agree to Drop Court Martial Charges Former coordinator of Intelligence Services, Gen David Sejusa has said that he is in talks with President Yoweri Museveni to make sure that charges slapped against his former aides are dropped. Speaking at the Court Martial hearing today, the General stated that his people were arrested for nothing because the state has not given any substantial evidence against them. The accused were appearing before Makindye Court Martial chaired by Major General Levi Karuhanga in a session attended by Gen Sejusa. Gen Sejjusa also said that the charges against the six be dropped because the man (Sejusa) whom they are accused of aiding is now a free man who even attended the court session. While submitting on behalf of the defense, Ladislaus Rwakafuzi told court that there was no need to continue with the hearing of the case where six people are accused of aiding a free person (Gen Sejusa). He further advised that as court looks into the process of dismissing the case, all the accused suspects deserve to be granted bail. However the judge advocate of the court martial Lt Col Katinda informed defense that they are free to make a formal bail application since bail is a constitutional right granted to every Ugandan. On the issue of the ongoing negotiations on withdrawing the case, Katinda said that the court was not aware of the negotiations and that therefore the trials could not be stopped. Rwakafuzi further asked to make an oral bail application saying the earlier bail application that was brought to court had all the requirements needed including the sureties with all their information further adding that the state was no longer interested in the case because the person after whom they were running was in the country and free. Rwakafuuzi advised that court can now offer them bail because the other time their bail application was rejected; it was believed that they could flee the country to meet Sejusa. The Judge advocate opposed the defense’s idea adding that there was no urgency for which the court would adjust its rules of procedure. Rwakafuuzi prayed for an adjournment on the grounds that the state which had to bring in more state witnesses had not done soand that more time to make a formal bail application was required by the law. Court has been adjourned up to January, 15.
