Selamat Hari Pangan Dunia.... Happy World Food Day! Family farmers: feeding the world, caring for the earth. The 2014 World Food Day theme - Family Farming: “Feeding the world, caring for the earth”..... It focuses world attention on the significant role of family farming in eradicating hunger and poverty, providing food security and nutrition, improving livelihoods, managing natural resources, protecting the environment, and achieving sustainable development, in particular in rural areas. Edgardo T Valenzuela mantan Coordinator, World Food Day and Special Initiatives FAO sejak March 1990 – January 2012 (21 years 11 months). Dan sebagai Chief of Outreach, Advocacy and Special Initiatives, sahabat lama saya sejak menjadi coordinator DWP (Development Workers Program ) dari ACFOD ( Asian Cultural Frorum on Development) di Bangkok pada th 1976. Pada program DWP Idan II Edgardo Valenzuela sempat berkunjung ke Pondok Pesantren Pabelan, Magelang bersama peserta rombongan dari 7 negara Asia. Saya sendiri menjadi peserta di bawah koordinasi Edgar, begitu kami memanggilnya, pada program DWP ACFOD pada th 1978 dengan mengunjungi 7 negera : Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Langka dan Nepal...... Pada th 1983 sd 1990 Edgar menjadi Executive Director Asian NGO Coalition (ANGOC), CEO of a regional network of CSOs with outreach to some 3,000 NGOs in the Asian region; project development, resource mobilization, development education, advocacy, public-private partnerships, networking..... Setelah pensiun dari World Food Day, Edgar menjadi Adjunct Professor di Ateneo de Manila University, School of Government, mengajar Capacity Building on Leadership, Communications, Negotiation Skills and Conflict Management, Appreciative Inquiry. Also teaching a course on Power, Ethics and Governance for the Master in Public Management Program..... Selamat Hari Pangan Sedia.. Selamat Bung Edgardo dengan tugas baru....Dan selamat kepada seluruh keluarga petani di dunia...
