Seldom there is any passage or a chapter or a story from the school syllabus, that leaves a mark on rest of ones life. But I have not forgotten the story Salvatore by Somerset Maugham. It was part of our syllabus in 11th standard, English 2nd language, I think. A simple story of a simple Italian fisherman, woven deftly by the author. Somehow Salvatores story of pure goodness sunk into my core since then. I tried following and practicing it despite the contrariant urges and limited success. But I won friends that would have been foes and I felt strangely free. It seemed that most do not expect it but instinctively respond when they encounter it. At the same time, I was also tricked by some who took me to be naive. But still I have no regrets. Such is the power of a story.
