Selena Gomez talks ‘Getaway’: ‘I’ve never held a gun before’ Get ready to see Selena Gomez like you’ve never seen her before when she hits the big screen Aug. 30 in her first action film “Getaway,” co-starring Ethan Hawke. The actress-and-singer, who plays “The Kid” in the film about a high-speed race to save Hawke’s kidnapped wife, spoke to OTRC at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Aug. 26 (see PHOTOS) about how exciting it was for her to take on a role that was different from anything she had done before. "I definitely felt like a little bit of a badass doing this movie," Gomez said to OTRC. "It was good though because as an actress I feel good to push myself into things that make me uncomfortable and, I’ve never held a gun before nor have I ever worked with someone like Ethan and Jon [Voight] before, so it was good for me. I was a little nervous and it was a challenge but it was so worth it in the end." Gomez and Ethan spend a majority of their time on-screen confined to a tricked-out Mustang, and despite attempting to steal the vehicle in the film, Gomez herself admits she is not much of a speed demon on the road. "Ethan drives a little fast," Gomez said. "He drives a little fast but it was great because I got to feel what it was like to be in the car with him and, I’m a very slow driver, so it was good to actually learn how he worked and then actually having to act with him was another challenge on top of it, being in such a close capacity. It was good though." Hawke’s sentiments about the young star were equally as glowing. "You know, one of the things that’s really impressive about her is she has a really great family and she doesn’t need to learn anything from me, that’s for sure," Hawke said to OTRC. Gomez has had quite the busy summer leading up to the release of “Getaway,” currently on tour promoting her album “Stars Dance” and taking home a Moonman for Best Pop Video at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25. With all the success, Gomez is grateful to have a legion of fans who support her ever-evolving career. "I genuinely love what I do and I just try to be the best I can be and obviously, every now and then we make mistakes but it’s been really fun and to work with great people like Ethan and Jon, I’m just so blessed to be in this opportunity, so I’m good," Gomez said.
