Self Control lets God Control 1 Peter 5:8 Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. 9 Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. 10 In his kindness God called you to his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power is his forever and ever. Amen. (NLT) The Bible teaches clearly that self-control is incredibly important part of the Christian life. Nothing replaces a calm collected spirit. Peter reminds us that Satan will take advantage of every situation where we are out of control. Just as in any other type of combat, when we retreat or even become complacent He becomes even more aggressive. We have no need to fall back at Satan’s roaring. Our only legitimate fear of is the One Who created Him and us, God Himself. “After” you have suffered awhile the Lord will restore that which was lost, strengthen and place you on a “firm foundation.” Every believer has to face the same difficulties. As you pass the test God will make you mature, stable and strong. Remember, self-control lets God control! PRAYER: Lord, You alone are fully in control. I confess my need for Your peace and protection. I surrender my mind, body, soul and spirit to You. Holy Spirit teach me how to possess a sober and vigilant spirit. Grant me victory in my daily life against the spiritual enemies that seek continuously to destroy me and use me to bring stability into the lives of others. In Jesus’ Name, amen. COMMITMENT: I will control my mind by feeding my spirit a constant diet of the Word of God. I will control my soul (emotions) by acting like I want to feel and, I will control my body by developing habits that will build my self-control and character daily.
