Self-abasement: Degradation or humiliation of oneself, especially - TopicsExpress

Self-abasement: Degradation or humiliation of oneself, especially because of feelings of guilt or inferiority. Colossians 2:18: "Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement…" On a frequent basis, I encounter people who dearly love the Lord yet self-abase as a daily practice. This is an absolute contradiction to the will of God because He sacrificed His first-born Son to overcome guilt, shame, and condemnation. To self-abase is to operate under the terms of the kingdom of darkness instead of the Kingdom of God. No matter how many years they have walked with Yahweh, they can’t seem to grasp the concept of total forgiveness; that they are loved, forgiven and redeemed by God. They perpetually beat and nit-pick themselves assuming that everything that goes wrong around them must be because they personally made the mess (theirs and everyone else’s). May I say to you directly, person of God, you are not so tainted that you corrupt everything you touch! Stop putting so much pressure on yourself to be perfect by human standards. No one is perfect but God, hence Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection for you and for me. To be perfect and holy as is He, we must deny ourselves and allow Holy Spirit (The Perfect One) to live His life through us. We are called to repentance, but not to condemn ourselves around every turn, to stay perpetually apologetic for past wrongs, or think that everything is about you to the point of never being able to arise from the squalor of your mind. If you have repented, received your already granted forgiveness from Christ, and are doing what God requires of you to mend wrongdoing, you are to walk out in the freedom Christ died to give. Truthfully, when you take on so much responsibility for every little thing that goes wrong, you’re actually walking in pride because you are making everything about YOU. You’re acting in fear instead of the love and peace of Christ. It’s time to get over yourself and begin to stay your gaze on all that Christ is and has done; allow Holy Spirit to move through you instead of trying in the flesh to accomplish what is supernatural. Get your mind off yourself and on to He who has conquered death and the grave. ~A.V. Wolf Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."
